In the fall of 2010, proof copies of an unpublished book called Hope and Enterprise circulated among a small but not uninfluential group of people. Its subtitle, A Guide to Citizen Activism for 2010 to 2025 was soon mooted by subsequent developments, from the Arab Spring to the Occupy Movement. Moreover, the core message of the book needed to be amplified, viz.: A call to activists to join forces in a mass-scale, constructive project to “Occupy the Economy” and “Make Activism an Occupation” – i.e., a full time, paid job. Thus a revised version of Hope and Enterprise has now been published, in a full-color, magazine format. With its related websites, it is intended as an illustrated organizing tool for the creation of a sustainable, democratic economy, in the United States and the world. The new subtitle is Building a democratic economy from under ground up and the new edition includes, for the first time in text/print, Noam Chomsky’s "Comments on building a society from below.” Proceeds from sales of the book, released under an open copyright that permits copying/sharing, support the projects that the book describes.
